Abstract :
The influence of a particular snubber circuit on voltage source inverter loads is investigated. The protective turn-on and turn-off snubber, as proposed by T.M. Undeland et al. (1984), was analyzed for the completely regenerative case to find analytical descriptions for the various transients. The asymmetrical output voltages of a three-phase inverter equipped with Undeland snubbers are calculated, and the implications it holds for motor drives are discussed. The relative importance of dead time and the influence of snubbers on output voltage distortion are treated. The results are confirmed by measurements
