Abstract :
A three-phase resonant DC link inverter (RDCLI) with a passive voltage clamp is investigated. The inverter is fed by a rectified three-phase line voltage, and the power rating is 100 kVA. Gate turn-off thyristors (GTOs) are used because of the high blocking voltage and load currents. Some restrictions of GTOs operating at high switching frequencies are discussed. Results of calculations and measurements of the GTO switching losses in the zero voltage switching mode are presented. Equations for the calculations of the values of the passive elements are derived. The principle of the current controller and first practical experiences with the RDCLI are presented
