Abstract :
Despite the relative ease with which new trains had been accepted into service by the Route Acceptance Safety Case process mandated in Railway Group standard (RGS) GE/RT 8270 issue 1, following the introduction of new European legislation and associated UK enabling regulations, the acceptance process has now been radically revised. This paper is an attempt to show how the risk assessment process used by Siemens and developed over the last fifteen years has been applied within the framework of the new legislation.
