Abstract :
Summary form only given. Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, is in the process of redefining itself. The city has partnered with private businesses, community leaders, and the citizens to revitalize its downtown based on sustainable development principles. A 640 acre area located in the city´s southside is the current focus of the revitalization effort. An eco-industrial park called SMART Park for Sustainable Manufacturing, Agricultural, and Recycling Technology has been proposed for that area. The concept is an innovative model designed to integrate the inflows and outflows of energy, water and waste streams for multiple businesses in a sustainable and synergistic manner. It focuses on improving the collaboration of business practices among companies, communities and organizations to achieve more efficient operations and systematic approaches for identifying cost reduction, pollution prevention and new product development opportunities
