Abstract
Summary form only given. It is an incontestable fact that Intranets introduce in organizations many operational and strategic benefits, which are hard to be measured. Such argument, however, cannot justify the implantation of this resource without controlling involved costs, effective use, performance restrictions and continuous necessary investments. In this paper, in order to control the costs and the investments in intranets, the authors propose a model that deals with the data communication services provider unit, as a business area and a profit center. This model allows this unit a self-administration, with a higher control on the resources expansion and updating. Besides, the disclosure of the cost of communication services will lead the user to a more effective use of the resources
