  • Abstract
There are over 200 cable-stayed bridges in China. Damage detection for stay cables is an urgent problem. The broken wire detection is investigated based on the magnetostrictive guided wave technology by experimentally. Two custom-built stay cables with several broken wire flaws are detected by a magnetostrictive guided wave testing system. The results indicate that the method could detect broken wires quickly and efficiently in stay cables. The minimum detectable defect reaches 3.2% cross section area.
