Abstract :
Some research groups have studied how to evaluate human olfaction objectively, but there has been no attempt to objectively evaluate the subjectivity evoked by an odor stimulation. We have tried to evaluate the feelings of a subject, namely the subjectivity evoked by odor stimulation. In this study, we have measured the EEG activity of a subject who was stimulated by an odor and we have objectively evaluated the influence of the odor stimulation by chaotic analysis and by frequency analysis. We could obtain the effect of odor stimulation even if the subject did not consciously smell the odor. The results showed that, in the favorite odor stimulation, the chaotic value of the EEG data decreased slowly, but that of the unfavorite odor stimulation dispersed quickly. We could measure the change in the feelings of the subject by odor stimulation, and we could predict the feelings of the subject by using several, more suitable explanatory variables selected from the physiological information
