Abstract :
A new prescaler for a fully integrated 5-GHz CMOS frequency synthesizer is presented in this paper. The prescaler based on source-coupled logic (SCL) is designed to reduce switching noise, power consumption, and area. The circuit is implemented by using TSMC 0.25-μm 1P5M CMOS technology with 2.5 V power supply. The power consumption of the improved divide-by-two circuit for the prescaler is 3.45-mW at 2.5 V and 5.32 GHz, which is almost half of the power consumption of the original circuit.
