Abstract :
Samples were cut from boules (φ40×80mm) of Pb(Mg1/3 Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) grown by a modified Bridgman method. The composition dependence trends of piezoelectric constant d33 and coupling factor kt, are given. For the composition PMN/PT=67/33, ε~5000, tg δ <1%, d33~2000 pC/N, kt~0.6-0.62, k33~0.90-0.94 were achieved. Aging and d33 fluctuations were also briefly discussed. The above features and the feasibility of enlargements in crystal size and production scale indicate that PMN-PT single crystals are promising candidates for actuators and transducers of the new generation
