Abstract :
An investigation of a computer-implemented analytical model for the design of a heat-coil for induction cookers in comparison with a finite-element simulation is presented. The inductance of the coil can be calculated, taking the effect of the presence of a ferrite disk and workpiece into account. The program is fast and easy to use on any PC and gives acceptable results. This theory can also be used for the design of other forms of heat-coils for induction heating. Unfortunately, the analytical approach does not provide a sufficiently accurate magnetic field distribution to permit proper calculation of the losses under operational conditions. One of the reasons for this may be that the method of images for the magnetic properties is actually for an infinite plane of magnetic material. The effect of the finite size of the ferrite disk and workpiece thus causes serious errors
