Abstract :
The author considers the adverse effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) from high-frequency electronic ballasts used to operate 4 ft long fluorescent lamps. He presents four cases in which EMI from such ballasts interfered with the operation of installed control systems or other equipment, and the steps taken to correct the problem. Such interference is considered with respect to limits allowed by FCC Title 47. From the four cases the author infers three generic situations in which electronic ballasts should be used with care and concludes with recommended actions to minimize the effect of EMI in electronic ballasts
