Abstract :
This paper reports a left ventricle three-dimensional reconstruction method from two orthogonal angiographic projections. The proposed algorithm works in the three-dimensional (3D) space and considers the oblique projection geometry associated to the biplane image acquisition equipment. The reconstruction process starts with an initial ellipsoidal approximation derived from the given angiographic images. Then this model is appropriately deformed in order to match the given projections. With this purpose, the object is modeled as a three-dimensional Markov-Gibbs random field and an energy function is defined including a term that models the projections compatibility and another one that includes the spatial regularity constraints. The performance of this reconstruction method is first evaluated by considering the reconstruction of a 3D binary database obtained from a 3D CT image of a dog heart. The method is then tested on real data by performing the 3D reconstruction from two orthogonal preprocessed angiographic images
