Abstract :
The RADECS 2008 organizing committee decided this year to try a new way of identifying the best oral presentation, best poster presentation and best student presentation, so the awards could be presented to the authors on the last day of RADECS 2008, during the Gala dinner. Basically it was agreed that each RADECS 2008 attendee should have the right to vote for the best papers. So each RADECS 2008 attendee received a voting ticket with their Workshop material and was asked to vote for three best oral and poster presentations. In each of these two categories, 3 points should be given to the “best” presentation, 2 points to the “second best” presentation and 1 point to the “third best” presentation. Following the final oral presentation and the second poster session on Friday the 12th of September, voting tickets were collected and evaluated by the organizing committee. For each category the paper with the highest number of points were assigned the best RADECS 2008 paper. The student award was assigned to the student paper, either oral or poster presented, with the highest number of points. Here we had two papers with the same number of points—so two winners. About 30 % of the attendees contributed to this award exercise.
