  • Abstract
This paper presents an overview of recent work by the authors and their colleagues on the use of optical fiber gratings in several different situations where better monitoring of industrial structures is required. The paper then reviews several of these different types of application where these gratings, in different configurations and used in different ways, offer new solutions to important and topical measurement problems for industry. The work goes on to review the results obtained in these situations and at the critical advantages for monitoring seen as a consequence in the use of such gratings.
