Abstract :
New analytical formulae are proposed to determine leaky surface modes existing in two kinds of planar structures: planar optical waveguides with a uniaxially anisotropic guiding layer and an interface between isotropic material with negative permittivity and uniaxially anisotropic material. Analytical solutions are confirmed by the finite-element eigenmode analysis.
