Abstract
We look at the interpolation of band-limited sampled signals from a new perspective by studying the modification of the original statistical information introduced by the interpolation scheme. It is well known that the cardinal series interpolation scheme gives the correct answer to problem we deal with. Unfortunately, whenever an open observation domain is at hand, only truncated versions of the ideal interpolation scheme can be followed. Such an occurence generates some often unrecognized artefacts on the statistical information. These must be properly acknowledged and possibly minimized in order to avoid some misjudged outcomes. To limit such artefacts we propose the use of an appropriately tailored interpolation scheme: the Knab (1983) sampling window interpolation scheme. The results are outstanding compared to the traditional truncated cardinal series interpolation scheme. Some numerical results are presented and discussed.
