Abstract :
Network colouring application has been used quite extensively within electrical distribution systems. TNB has taken an initiative to extend the power of network colouring to another dimension - to detect system islanding within their transmission network. This paper explains the needs to have a reliable and fast island detector. It then describes the processes within the detection scheme. Through the illustrations on various tests conducted and a real islanding event, the scheme proves to be a worthy assisting tool for the control system operators at TNB
