Abstract :
A broadband dual-polarized magneto-electric dipole with loaded dielectric substrate suitable for GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 systems have been designed and tested. Dual polarized antenna is popular in wireless communications as it employs diversity technique to combat multi-path fading for enhancing channel capacity. Two pairs of short-circuited patches are fed by four Gamma shaped probes (with the ground plane size= 130mm times 130mm) for the case of plusmn45 polarizations. Metallic side walls are added in the dual-polarized antenna design in order to improve the radiation pattern. Experimentally, the dual-polarized antenna of port 1 and port 2 are operating from 1.65GHz to 2.12GHz (%bandwidth = 24.9) and 1.60GHz to 2.13GHz (%bandwidth = 28.4%) respectively. Moreover, the average gain is about 8.2dBi and the isolation between two ports is less than -29dB over the operating frequency.
