Abstract
Incumbent operators around the world generally carry voice traffic on circuit-switched networks, while data services are handled by separate network architectures. Major savings in capital and operational costs may be achieved by migrating all these services to a common next generation network (NGN) platform, with individual service interfaces at the edge of the network. Analysys has developed a reference model which explores the cost implications of different scenarios for this transition. The best strategy will vary according to the design and age of the existing network, and the model uses a scaleable methodology that can be applied to diverse network architectures. An extension to the model evaluates the incremental business case for additional IPTV services deployed on the NGN platform
