  • Abstract
The design of nonbinary multifrequency excitation signals for system identification is examined. The performance of such signals in parametric time-domain estimation and nonparametric frequency-domain estimation for noisy and nonlinear systems is assessed, and a comparison with the maximum length binary sequence is made. A nonbinary multifrequency signal composed of prime harmonics is proposed for frequency-domain estimation of nonlinear systems, and practical results are presented. Guidelines for test signal design are outlined
