Abstract :
High-current air-core pulsing small-size betatrons (BIM) are constructed by the A.I. Pavlovskii group and used as a radiation source for flash radiography at the explosive experiments. The investigation results of the radiographic characteristics (spot sizes, radiation pulse duration, X-ray ability, angular distribution, spectrum composition) of the new BIM-M accelerator are submitted here. The use of betatrons in radiography of fast-going processes has some characteristic features, connected to propagation and registration of the bremsstrahlung with E/sub f//spl les/70 MeV end point, generated by the accelerator. To increase the registrars (SR) sensitivity thick metal converters of radiation are applied. Application of the cyclic accelerator allows to form a few pulses of radiation in one accelerating cycle with given quanta distribution in time and thus to register various phases of investigated process in one experiment. The registrars with time controlling sensitivity are necessary for this. The results of research of some converters of radiation, intended for SR on the basis of an image converter tube (ICT), are given here also.
