Abstract
We have in this paper, reported on the investigation and validation of the existence of parasitic phase shifts. The cases of HEMT FHX35LG in [4] and E-pHEMT MGA53543 were used for validation, where in both cases; similar phase shifting behaviour was exhibited. This behaviour was exploited for a pre-liminary design of a small linear antenna array. Future work will involve array structures with more than 2 elements. The limitations of using our approach in highly populated arrays will be investigated. Miniaturization of the designed parasitic phase shifter to chip level shall remain a challenge for the industry.
