Abstract :
In this paper the electrical breakdown mechanism of vacuum (gases at very small pressure values from 10/sup -5/ Pa to 10 Pa) and inter-electrode gap values (from 0.1 mm to 1 mm) is considered. Comparing experimental results and theoretical analysis, the border mark areas of different breakdown mechanisms are established. The experimental procedure examined: vacuum breakdown voltage value and emission characteristics V/sub -4/ (voltage at which the emission current amounts to 10/sup -4/ A), varying inter electrode gap, vacuum pressure and voltage applied. Static (DC), AC and pulse voltages are applied. Theoretical functions of obtained results distribution were statistically tested.
