Abstract
This paper describes the features of a modern distribution management system (DMS) for large regional electricity companies. A key feature of these systems is the ability to model the electrical power network and the associated telemetry network used to monitor this. The primary purpose of a distribution management system for network operations is to enable the dispatch of field crew to maintain and repair the network, safely and promptly. The modern competitive market emphasises that electric utilities need to monitor and improve levels of customer satisfaction as well as optimising network operations and controlling operational costs
