  • Abstract
Implemented along 18 different specific programmes, the Fourth Community Framework Programme (FPIV) covers all the research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities to be carried out by the European Union during the period 1994-1998. Among the possibilities for support offered by the European Commission, a number of programmes include, at different levels, information technology in biomedicine among their components. These programmes include two of the Life Sciences and Technologies programmes, the Biotechnology and the Biomedicine and Health proposals for projects covering the works specified in the work programmes. The paper discusses BIOMED, INFOCUS, BIOTECH, CABRI and the Fifth Framework Programme
