Abstract
A novel compact dual-mode defected ground structure (DGS) resonator is presented. Full-wave simulation was used to investigate the distinct characteristics of this type of resonator. The results show that it has two operating modes which don´t coupled with each other and it is convenient to control the resonant frequency of two modes. Also, an inherent transmission zero could be controlled to locate at the high or low side of the two modes. A bandpass filter, using this type of resonator, has a bandwidth of 5.7% at 2.26 GHz is simulated and fabricated. The results show that this filter not only has an inherent transmission zero near the passband, but also has a very wide upper stopband with rejection better than 20 dB up to about 10 GHz.
