Abstract
We explore the benefits of using a spiking neuronal network to generate direction-selectivity. The experiments are performed using an aVLSI spike-based network configured for two possible cortical architectures. We find that the direction-selective properties are influenced by the various connections in the recurrent network and that the network is sensitive to over almost 3 decades of stimulus speeds.
