  • Abstract
Burnishing processing is effective in leveling off the cutting marks on the machined surface of workpiece formed by pre-machining tools. The effect of elastic controlling parameters on burnishing force, surface roughness and microhardness of aluminum alloy workpiece burnished with elastic burnishing polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tools is studied experimentally with a theoretical analysis. The topics in choosing the optimum elastic controlling burnishing parameters - pretightening force and rigidity coefficient are discussed. With suitable elastic controlling parameters employed, the surface roughness reduced to Ra = 0.08 micron from the original 0.4 micron. The better microhardness and surface roughness were obtained during elastic burnishing processing with spring rigidity coefficient is 0.75 N/mm and pretightening force 31.5 N.
