Abstract
Summary form only given. The search for new antioxidant agents is very important for the prevention and treatment of many chronic and degenerative diseases. The purpose of this study is to investigate the antioxidant activity of some drugs: Chloropromazine, Promethazine, Captopril, Cimetidine. The study was performed on a model lipid system at concentrations of 0.1-100 μmol/l. The results from TBA-test show that the phenothiazine derivatives have an antioxidant effect more pronounced than Cimetidine and Captopril. These results correlated well with the inhibition of Fe2+-induced chemiluminescence at the same model system. The chemiluminescent and photometric (NBT-test) registration of superoxide radicals generated in the system xantine-xantine oxydase indicates that the phenotiazine derivatives are good scavengers which partially explains their strong antioxidant properties
