Abstract :
This paper presents the system level simulation concept for the design and simulation of a current source PWM inverter (PWM-CSI). This scheme gives a very high quality inverter output current without the requirement of bulky output filters. This can be achieved through the employment of a sinusoidal PWM switching technique and a bank of small low pass filters. This low pass filters will provide instantaneous high quality motor input current. Guidelines to select the particular PWM pattern, to model the current source inverter (CSI) and a design example at the system (macro) level is provided. It is shown that through macro modeling, analysis and simulation of complex power electronic circuits is possible even in a PC environment
