  • Abstract
In this paper, the effects of nonlinear loads on power systems are discussed by the analysis of power behaviour on different design solutions. In particular, voltage notches caused by static power converters are analyzed. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new approach to the solution of compatibility problems between special applications and disturbance sources. Such an approach, based on a comparison between a classical solution with dedicated transformer units MV/LV for special applications subsystems and a nonconventional solution with a voltage filter, should be suitable both in the design of new power systems and in the upgrading of existing ones. Test results, on a laboratory case study, show effective behaviour for different types of special application equipment
