Abstract :
Recently, several investigators have used a propagation model attributable to H.T. Head (1960) for predicting radio transmission loss on ground-to-ground paths obstructed by trees. A re-examination is conducted of Head´s data, which are compared with analogous data taken by J.S. McPetrie and L.H. Ford (1946). It is concluded that there is no basis for applying the Head model to transmission paths within the woods or, to any tree-obstructed transmission paths when the antennas are sited below treetop level.<>
