Abstract :
Over and over again power definitions are discussed in literature and on conferences. This discussion is vital to enhance the understanding of the underlying principles of power definitions and current decomposition. Especially the decomposition of currents into necessary and disturbing components is needed for the control of compensators. The paper discusses the decomposition of instantaneous quantities and of mean value quantities based on the so-called FBD-method. The consequences of the compensation of undesired current components on the demanded energy storage capability of a controlled compensator is analysed. A simple method to reduce this demanded energy storage capability considerably is presented
