Abstract :
The output power level and efficiency of grating coupled surface emitting (GSE) laser devices has remained low relative to edge emitting laser diodes. In this paper we discuss the fabrication of GSE lasers with high power and high differential efficiency comparable to those of edge emitting lasers. A schematic diagram of our GSE structure (grown by metallorganic chemical vapor deposition - MCVD) is shown.
