Abstract :
In the paper field experience with Statcom in application to a wind farm is presented. Statcom is usually used in connection with wind farms to provide low voltage ride-through and improve stability of the power system. In this case the reactive power compensation capabilities are mostly utilized. Statcom can generate inductive or capacitive power according to a selected strategy directly in the point of connection of the wind farm to the power system. This provides additional advantages over the direct turbine control: it can stabilize the power system, decrease flicker level and provide reactive power directly in the DSO´s connection irrespective of the wind farm operation.
