Abstract
This paper presents a wavelet-based multicarrier modulation scheme for communication over non-ideal channels. The modulation and demodulation is accomplished by using perfect reconstruction filter banks (PRFBs). We show that this scheme exhibits a high level of robustness to intersymbol interference (ISI) even in poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environments while enjoying all the benefits associated with multicarrier systems. In addition, this scheme achieves acceptable performance even when filters with relatively poor spectral containment are used, i.e., short subband filters can be used leading to reduction in processing time in implementations of modulators and demodulators
