Abstract :
This paper describes the principle of operation, construction and preliminary characterization of a fiber-optic temperature sensor, specifically designed for marine environment. The sensing element was a fibercore highly birefringent (HB) fiber operated at 800 nm wavelength, and the decoding system was based on the principle of white-light interferometry. An overall absolute accuracy better than 1% of full scale has been achieved as required
