Abstract
The present study proposes a novel technique of detecting and estimating the harmonic components of a signal under the influence of significant noise. The proposed method combines the advantages of both singular value decomposition (SVD) and orthogonal least squares (OLS) algorithm. By introducing an error reduction ratio (ERR) test, the algorithm detects the correct frequency component present in the signal. The other parameters of the signal are computed using SVD. The performance of the method has been demonstrated considering a power signal at different levels of noise and has been found to be satisfactory.
