Abstract :
Spread spectrum digital clocks have been used for decades to decrease radio interference. There are various techniques, such as random frequency dither or frequency modulation (FM). The mechanism is effective because the noise power is spread across a wide portion of the frequency spectrum, reducing the noise power available to disturb a narrow bandwidth receptor. A method is presented for creating broadband digital clocks using suppressed carrier amplitude modulation. The strengths and weaknesses of this spread spectrum clock technique are discussed, with accompanying data
