Abstract :
Technically new method to find nearly wavelet pairs was suggested and tested for some images. Two wavelets from filter bank compose a wavelet pair. Each wavelet works horizontal and vertical directions. For image compression index, PSNR value was used. Wavelet pair which shows maximum PSNR value was focused. An algorithm to find maximum PSNR was suggested. The algorithm useful in first level was valid to other levels in multiresolution analysis. Computing time for the real maximum PSNR and that for the nearly optimal PSNR value based on the suggested algorithm was compared. The shortest length wavelet from the filter bank plays a key role in this method.
