Abstract
Some background is provided concerning the author´s involvement in the subject of quality assessment of numerical codes and in steps taken to do something about it. Foremost in this endeavor has been exploration of the feasibility of using benchmark numerical solutions, which are computed with as much stated reliability as can be mustered, as standards against which numerical codes should be tested before they, or data generated by them, are released to the scientific community.<>
