Abstract :
A good circularly polarized wave over a wide frequency bandwidth can be produced by 2-turn helical antennas. However, when this type of antenna is used as an element of an array antenna, the axial ratio and antenna gain are greatly deteriorated. The paper describes the fabrication and testing of 5 and 14 element helical array antennas with high efficiency, wide frequency band, and simple structure. They are applicable to INMARSAT systems.
