Abstract
A certain class of Lp correlation functions is defined, and its properties are presented. It offers an approach to characterize the features of the waveforms from the correlation function. By adjusting the real value p , the role of sample points can be emphasized with different magnitudes in the correlation computation. The L 1 correlation function implies the phase information of the waveforms and has an additional advantage in computational complexity. Experiments on applications to time-delay estimation, and seismic signal processing demonstrate the great potential use and effectiveness of the L 1 correlation function
