Abstract
We demonstrate that by employing the main-pulse Laurent approximation, blind second-order-statistics-based channel identification can be performed for partial response CPM signals having modulation indices other than one-half. We use the approximation to formulate the problem in the single-input multiple-output model, permitting fractional sampling of the channel output, and we compare the estimation performance, for several multipath-distorted CPM signals, of several blind channel identification methods. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of existing techniques for general CPM signals and highlight the necessity of exploiting the known source statistics and pulses.
