Abstract
A new ultrasonic immersion testing method for the detection of internal flaws in a running steel strip has been developed. An ultrasonic detecting system using this method has been installed in No.6 Pickling Line at Kawasaki Steel Chiba Works. It is confirmed that an inclusion with 5 × 10-5 mm3 in the minimum volume in running steel strip can be detected with signal-to-noise ratio in the range of 9- 10dB.
