Abstract :
Describes the development of a trace-driven performance model for a PS/2 token-ring file server. The target system consists of a token ring network, a PS/2 file server, and several requesters. The authors have derived a high level behavioral model for the server hard disk and disk cache, which enable one to study the server performance and request response times under different patterns of network traffic and configurations. The model simulation results have been used for analyzing the design trade-off of network components and for the capacity planning and performance tuning of a LAN server
