Abstract
The intention of this paper is to provide answers to engineers who are evaluating magnetic actuation technology for reclosers, and for those who already own these type devices who wish to learn their mechanics and operation. Magnetic actuation, as developed by each manufacturer, must be properly designed and controlled to perform safely and optimally in all physical, temperature, and electrical environments. With these factors considered and properly implemented, magnetically actuated reclosers can offer significant benefits for improving protection and reliability on today´s demanding distribution systems.
