Abstract :
Describes the design and application of a SLAMSYSTEM model for an intermodal freight terminal in the rail industry. The model was built to examine various what-if questions relating to the design and operation of individual terminals within Conrail´s intermodal network. An example application of the model is given to determine the feasibility of eliminating one terminal from the corporation´s system and shifting the traffic volume to a remaining terminal. The study is based on current as well as forecasted future traffic volumes.
