Abstract :
This paper addresses the closed-loop behaviour of a boost power converter feeding a constant power load. This configuration is present in DC-DC converters feeding power converters tightly regulated in multi-converter power electronic systems. The dynamic properties of a boost converter operating with a constant power load differ from when the converter is loaded by resistors. Based on a large-signal model of the converter, the local behaviour around the operating point and its basin of attraction are defined. This region of attraction, in general, excludes the low range of the output voltage affecting the transient stability and forcing proper coordination between the converter and loads during start-up.
