  • Abstract
This paper presents a unique approach for contactless liquid level measurement via the free-space electromagnetic damping phenomenon. By measuring the attenuation and phase shift of a wave reflected from the liquid surface, the liquid level in the tank can be determined. This research project has been undertaken because of a rising demand in the automotive industry for low-cost contactless level detection of fluids in the engine compartment.
